Now that there is camera enforcement on illegal traffic in Oxford city centre, perhaps the council could now turn its attention to Cornmarket Street and Queen Street.
I have always believed that you enter Cornmarket from the south and exit to the north, which brings me to this point.
Last Wednesday, a vehicle belonging to a trader in the Covered Market entered Cornmarket from St Michael's Street, turned right, travelled south, then turned left into Market Street against the no-entry signs. This driver committed three offences.
I pointed out to the driver that turning right out of St Michael's was against the law, but he just ignored me. Cyclists do their own thing throughout the day in both streets.
A white van entered Cornmarket from St Aldate's and turned right into Market Street - another offence because it is no entry. He then drove all the way through.
Perhaps police could position themselves check vehicles entering Cornmarket - it would be a nice little earner for the force.
Queen Street also has its problems with unauthorised vehicles. Private hire cabs, taxis, cycles and delivery vehicles drive straight through - if caught, that would be another nice little earner.
