NHS workers are getting ready to perform a swan song for Oxford's oldest hospital.

The Radcliffe Orchestra, made up of health workers from across the city, is joining forces with the Headington Singers and Oxford Collutorium to hold a gala concert celebrating the Radcliffe Infirmary's 237 years of service.

Patients and staff at the hospital said farewell to the hospital in Woodstock Road in January, when they were transferred to the newly-built West Wing at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington.

The concert, at Oxford Town Hall, on Saturday, April 21, at 7.30pm, will be a final tribute to the building's history, and will include Handel's Coronation Anthems, Shostakovich's Festive Overture and a special commission from Oxford composer, Roger Teichmann.

Prof John Stradling, consultant director at the Osler chest unit, based at the Churchill Hospital, and a member of the Radcliffe Orchestra, said: "The Radcliffe Infirmary holds a very special place in the hearts of many people in Oxford and all the doctors, nurses and others who have trained and worked there.

"A huge amount of preparation is going into this concert which will be a very special creative event that marks the passing and the significance of this world-renowned hospital."

Tickets for the concert cost £14, and are available from the John Radcliffe Hospital West Wing League of Friends, the Churchill Hospital League of Friends, Blackwell's Medical Bookshop at the JR and or at the Oxford Playhouse box office, or call 01865 305305, or book online at www.oxfordplayhouse.com /ticketsoxford/booking.asp
