AFTER reading Brian Duffy’s letter re landlords getting rich at the expense of taxpayers (May 21), it makes one wonder in this age of cutbacks in welfare how much of the budget is spent on paying rents to private landlords who house people on benefits?
As Mr Duffy says, the money paid to the landlords is a guaranteed income for them.
As many houses may be bought up by landlords when they come on the market and who own many properties, and are probably mortgaged and rents paid in this way, would it be correct to say that the local taxpayer is paying the mortgage?
