A SCHOOLGIRL has written a single to raise money for a school in Ethiopia.

AS student at Headington School Sky Hormbrey has used her love of music to help children thousands of miles away.

The 17-year-old singersongwriter wrote and performed the song, titled Beautiful, and even made a music video for the song on YouTube.

She has made the song available to buy on iTunes as well, and hopes to raise money for a school trip to Ethiopia.

Geography students will fund and help build a girls’ toilet block for an underfunded school.

The students hope to raise £5,000 before travelling to Ethiopia in July.

Miss Hormbrey said: “I’ve been playing the piano since I was six, and I think I was about 10 when I started writing songs.

“I thought is was an original way to raise money for charity. I’ll find out at the end of the month how many singles have been sold.”

The single is available for 79p on iTunes here and proceeds will go to the Headington School’s fund for the Hamele 19 school in Assela, Ethiopia.

Miss Hormbrey will also be going on the trip and said: “I’m very excited as it will open my eyes to a different way of living.”

This is the fourth year that the school has gone to Ethiopia.

Head of geography David Cunningham set up the trip after living in Ethiopia for three years between 2006 and 2009.

Since the charitable endeavour and cultural exchange began in 2012, more than 60 Headington students have visited the school and about £31,000 has been spent on building a concrete classroom, a new library and a first toilet block.
