I read your article re the concerns of local traders in Oxford worrying about reduced footfall.

Our village, Kennington, is served by the 35 bus which stops in Castle Street, just convenient for people to go into the Westgate Centre and to return home via the same stop.

In its wisdom Oxfordshire County Council has now decided that the bus company will be allowed to unload passengers at that stop, but not to reload there.

Some of our elderly residents, and those not as mobile as others, will now have to walk to St Aldate’s.

Despite the parish council requesting that loading passengers should be allowed to continue, we have received no satisfactory response.

It would appear rather odd that a bus can stop to allow passengers off the bus, but not back on.

It only goes to reinforce the view that the phrases “common sense” and “county council” obviously do not sit together.

It would appear that not only does the council not want cars in the city centre, but it is not too concerned with shoppers who use buses either.
