A CARE home for people with learning disabilities has been rated inadequate by the health watchdog.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said 27 Islip Road in Summertown was inadequate in four categories and required improvement in one more.

The home was the 25th of 92 care homes across the county to not meet the standards set by the CQC.

Inspectors visited the 10-bed care home for people with learning disabilities on March 11.

Following the inspection, the representatives of the CQC said: “We reviewed one person’s file who sometimes displayed behaviour that could result in self-injury or present as challenging to others.

“Guidelines did not clearly state how this person should be supported in order to prevent incidents from occurring.”

The CQC said the home was inadequate for safety, responsiveness, effectiveness of care and leadership.

Inspectors said the staff were caring to patients but care still required improvement.

The home is operated by Advance UK.

Operations manager Ellen Toynton said: “Nothing is more important to us than the welfare of our customers and, although all our customers at Islip Road are happy with the support they have received from our team, failing the inspection is unacceptable to us.

“We swiftly drew up a robust improvement plan which we are already implementing, and both the CQC and the local authority is happy with the steps we are taking.

“We have also informed our customers and their family about the CQC report, and will be meeting with the families again shortly to update them on the progress we are making.”
