ARMY bomb experts have detonated an explosive shell found in a woman's shed.

Police and the Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal squad were called to Elm Close in Wheatley this afternoon after a woman made the discovery.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Hannah Williams confirmed police were called to a property in Elm Close at 2.20pm this afternoon after the new owner reported finding what was believed to be a piece of historic live ammunition.

Police officers attended and then called in a squad from the Royal Logistic Corps who took the object to a safe area before detonating it.

The Oxford Mail livestreamed the event this afternoon on Periscope and showed coverage of the device being detonated in a nearby farmer's field.

Residents of Elm Close said that the bomb disposal vehicle had been patrolling the estate before entering the field.

Residents weren’t informed why the bomb disposal unit was in Elm Close.

One neighbour says she understands a woman found an explosive in her shed.
