Sir – Yesterday, as she was getting out of her car in Summertown, my friend was approached by a ‘respectable’, middle-aged woman who told her to go back to her ‘own country’. My friend, who was born and brought up in Britain, is honestly one of the most thoughtful and generous people I know. She is always willing to help those in need regardless of their age, colour or religion.
Over the years she has given a huge amount of her own time to support our local pre-school, primary school, and Beaver Scouts group and has initiated or supported countless fundraising events for a range of deserving causes. If the lady in Summertown had taken five minutes to talk to my friend she might have begun to understand that not only does she have every right to be living here in her ‘own country’ but that she is a wonderful human being and a huge asset to us all.
