Sir – Your leading article (March 26) clearly seeks to strike a balanced view about the proposed expansion of Oxford Airport, and rightly so.

However, in trying to do so, it dangerously underestimates the threat to our beautiful town from expansionist plans for residential development which we (the town council and the vast majority of the community) are currently fighting with all possible vigour.

“Save Woodstock – 1,500 new houses will double and ruin our historic town” is our rallying cry, and one to which the county council leader, councillor Ian Hudspeth, with his Woodstock county councillor hat on, has readily subscribed.

The thought of a “satellite town” of this proportion being dumped on Woodstock by the Pye/Blenheim consortium on land which will take the boundary of the town right up to the airport is shocking enough, but to give further impetus by increasing the attractiveness of destinations offered by flights from Oxford seems to me to be irresponsible.

All concerned should think again.
