I AM responding to John Tanner’s letter in the Oxford Mail (March 18), in which he gives totally biased voting advice to the electorate of Oxford West and Abingdon, suggesting that everyone should vote Labour.

He would say that, wouldn’t he? I do wish he wouldn’t write such nonsense – there are people out there who are stupid enough to follow his advice.

Like most other Labour politicians and supporters, Mr Tanner conveniently forgets and doesn’t mention that Labour was (and still are) responsible for the mess that the present bunch inherited in 2010 – not that I think that the stitched-together coalition was in any better position to put it right.

Neither will Labour be if they, by some miracle, manage to win this year’s election.

And to echo Mr Tanner’s comment about the Lib Dems, Labour will never be forgiven for giving the Tories on a plate, in the form of a ruined economy, all the excuse they needed for slashing public spending on all fronts.

Today’s letters

So who will win the election on May 7? Having ganged-up on the SNP to produce a no vote in the Scottish independence referendum, and having failed to deliver their pre-referendum promises, the three main Westminster parties may find that the SNP has kicked all other MPs out of Scotland, and holds the balance of power after the election. What a solution to the Mid-Lothian question that would be!
