ANYONE who happens to be in the centre of Oxford tomorrow afternoon can expect to see a military spectacle.

Army Reserve band The Waterloo Band and Bugles of The Rifles, based in Abingdon, will be performing in Broad Street at 2pm.

Passers-by can expect the street to come to a standstill as the marching band appear.

Band trumpeter Jackie Mann, a member for more than 27 years, said: “The performance will not only be an entertaining event in the centre of Oxford but an amazing military and regimental spectacle by a local Army Reserve band and bugles.

“The aim is to raise the profile of the Waterloo Band of The Rifles and 7th Battalion The Rifles in the local area for recruitment purposes.”

The 7th Battalion the Rifles is one of the two Army Reserve battalions of The Rifles, and has company locations in Oxford, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire and London.

It has undertaken recent operational tours to Afghanistan in support of the regular Rifles battalions.

The band is based at the Edward Brooks Barracks in Abingdon.

The performance will begin at 2pm outside Balliol College.
