A 70-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with head and hand injuries after a car and a bus were involved in a crash at the entrance to the Churchill Hospital in Headington yesterday.

The Silver VW Golf collided with the double-decker Stagecoach bus at about 7.30am.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Old Road.

A witness who did not wish to be named said: “The driver of the Golf estate car seems to have revved up leaving a black residue in the car park exit, driven at speed up the kerb and then through a bush executing a 180 degree turn, the car has then hit a double decker bus head-on.

“The airbags had deployed in the car, it looked like it had hit the bus hard.”

Part of Old Road was closed leading to delays in the area and to the 700 and 900 Stagecoach bus services.

A police cordon was put in place around the vehicles as officers investigated the accident.

The section of road remained closed while the vehicles were recovered.

Karen Coventry, business development manager at Stagecoach said: “ A bus was involved in an accident at the Churchill Hospital which is still being investigated and did not cause any injuries to bus passengers or the driver of the bus.”
