A BLOCK of flats in Littlemore has been hit by a sewage leak twice in the past week.

Residents at the flats in College Lane said raw sewage had started leaking on Wednesday and was stopped by Thames Water before a second leak on Sunday.

The sewage reportedly flowed up to the doors of several flats but did not go inside any properties.

Resident Maureen Bradley, 55, said: “It was raw sewage pumping up from the drains.

“Thames Water came out and stopped it on Wednesday but it started again at about 5pm on Sunday.

“It stank to high heaven.”

Chris Bamber, who has lived in the flats for 17 years, said Thames Water workers came out to sort the problem on Sunday night.

He said: “They came out at about 11.30pm to halt it all.

“It was coming right up to the doorways. There was a flood in the car park.

“Before this week it had happened once before but I do not know when that was.”

A Thames Water spokesman said: “We’ve cleared a second blockage and thoroughly cleaned up the area today after similar problems last week, also caused by a build-up of cooking fat and wet wipes.

“Only human waste and toilet paper should ever go down the toilet, but we will fully inspect this stretch of sewer tomorrow, including sending down a CCTV camera, to check if there are any underlying issues that need further attention.”
