Sir –I should very much like to believe that the proposed changes to Frideswide Square will greatly improve the flow of traffic around this key strategic point.
Alas, reviewing the artist’s impression of the new road layout, I find it impossible to be optimistic.
Given the volume of traffic travelling east into Oxford along the Botley Road, it is possible to envisage that for much of the time it will be extremely difficult to turn right out of the station complex once the traffic lights have been removed.
Worse, there appears to be only one east-bound traffic lane between the station and the Royal Oxford Hotel. Currently there are two. How do the planners envisage that a halving of the capacity of the road along that stretch will ease congestion?
