NEW cycle markings have been drawn at a “dangerous” junction in the city centre following concerns from cyclists.
Last month, Oxfordshire County Council agreed to introduce more signs for cyclists at the junction of Worcester Street, George Street and Hythe Bridge Street in Oxford after it carried out a safety audit. It followed concerns raised by national cycling charity the Cyclists’ Touring Club.
The markings provide cyclists travelling from Hythe Bridge Street to George Street with an area to wait in the middle of the junction.

Speaking before the markings were installed, county councillor for Jericho and Osney Susanna Pressel said: “New signs would certainly not be enough, even with the small road markings that are also proposed.
“I have had many, many complaints about this dangerous junction from cyclists in my division and from cycling organisations.”
The redesigned junction opened in December after three months of work as part of the first stage of the Frideswide Square redevelopment.
Barriers and the pavement separating Worcester Street from George Street were removed.
