MORE than 30 firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a thatched pub near Wantage.
Fire crews were called to The Fox Inn pub in Denchworth, near Wantage, at 8.45pm on Saturday, following reports of a chimney fire.
The blaze had spread to the roof and needed five fire engines to put it out.
Incident commander Mike Adcock said: "Our fire crews worked quickly to make a break in the thatch to stop the fire spread.
"This quick action saved 99 per cent of the thatch roof. We are really pleased that our swift actions saved this vital and wonderful village pub."
A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was being investigated.
