A YOGA instructor has vowed to continue helping homeless people despite no one turning up for a special class.

Former Royal Air Force engineer Anne Mundy, 28, organised a free session at her studio in Oxford’s Cornmarket Street yesterday as part of the Big Issue Foundation’s health week.

But despite the disappointing response she will invite the charity’s vendors to future sessions because she wants everyone to try yoga.

Mrs Mundy, from Brize Norton, said: “I will definitely try to get them on board again and they are welcome to come to any of my studio classes.

“In order to be homeless a lot of bad stuff has obviously happened in their lives and maybe they are less interested in doing your yoga class, even with a nice warm room and tea and coffee, than finding out where you’re going to sleep thtat night.

“It was a bit disappointing no one turned up but maybe it would be more appropriate for them to come to my normal class because the big issue for homeless people is social integration.”

Mrs Mundy, whose husband Alasdair serves at RAF Brize Norton, runs her own studio above the Lush shop with four paid-for classes each day.

But each Friday she hosts a session for a different charity or organisation, and has helped people with mental and physical disabilities for the past month.

Her future plans include holding sessions for Banbury Boxing Club and at an inner-city school in London.

As part of the Big Issue’s week to encourage vendors to lead a healthier lifestyle, which ran from Monday to yesterday, she invited the charity’s magazine sellers in Oxford to attend her class.

Mrs Mundy said: “Yoga has helped me get back to basics and helps me have a more healthy lifestyle. I wanted to give more people that chance.

“I’m really passionate about the fact that yoga really helped me and I’m in that privileged group of people who have tried it.

“I am quite easy going with postures so it is not like standing on your head or anything like that.

“It beats stress and calms you down for the rest of the day.”
