CELEBRITY chef Raymond Blanc’s Oxfordshire restaurant has been named the eighth best in fine dining in the world.

Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, in Milton, won the plaudit in the 2014 Travellers’ Choice Restaurants awards, ran by TripAdvisor.

It was based on reviews and ratings given by visitors on the firm’s travel website.

Mr Blanc’s restaurant also ranked second in the UK and sixth in Europe.

General manager Philip Newman-Hall said: “We have held two Michelin stars for over 30 years and the great thing about the Travellers’ Choice awards is the votes come straight from our customers. That truly reflects the service and quality they received during their visit and the standard our restaurant has held since 1984.”

In the UK, Le Manoir came second to Midsummer House in Cambridge, a historic Victorian villa alongside the River Cam, which also ranked second worldwide.

The overall winner was El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, a Catalonian family-owned restaurant.

TripAdvisor spokesman James Kay said: “A great fine dining establishment can give a real visitor boost not just to that business, but to the local area too.

“With winning restaurants spread right across the UK, these awards are proof of the country’s thriving fine dining scene.”
