Commuters are facing a miserable morning on the roads with the weather and roadworks affecting journey times.

Work has begun on Worcester Street in Oxford, with one lane closed at Hythe Bridge Street and temporary traffic lights installed.

There is also heavy traffic on the A423 Southern Bypass due to the roadworks at Kennington Roundabout.

And there is congestion on the A34 near Wendlebury, both ways between M40 junction 9 and the A41 due to narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction as a result of long-term roadworks.

The A420 is slow, with an average speed of just 13mph, from Kingston Bagpuize into Oxford city centre.

Motorists have reported journey times of more than two hours to get from Cumnor down along Botley Road.

And the A40 at Thornhill Park and Ride is slow into the city as well.

Oxford Bus Company has tweeted that it's experiencing up to an hour delay on its city services.

Spokesman Phil Ashworth said: "The delays are caused by the roadworks in the Kennington/Hinksey Hill area.

"The normal pattern is for the delays to reduce during the day before building up once the evening peak gets underway.

"In addition roadworks in the Worcester Street/George Street/Hythe Bridge Street area began today.

"Other routes across the whole of the city are busy as motorists try to find ways of avoiding the congestion."
