Prime Minister David Cameron is having a positive impact on Britain’s relationship with the European Union, Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry told the Commons on the day he announced his retirement from politics.
The Conservative said on Monday that new President of the European Council Donald Tusk “has indicated that he is ready to support my Rt Hon Friend’s plans to introduce new limits on welfare payments to migrant workers from other EU states, and has made it clear that the European Union needs to find solutions to meet the UK’s legitimate concerns about EU membership.”
Sir Tony said: “Does not that demonstrate that it is possible for the UK, under my Rt Hon Friend’s leadership, to negotiate real and positive changes in our relationship with the EU?”
Mr Cameron said he was “looking forward to working with” the new president.
