BIDDERS are taking away more than just fish and chips from a Jericho eaterie.

The entire contents of Posh Fish in Walton Street, which closed in July, go under the hammer today – including ovens, air conditioners, potted plants and even its signs.

Private viewings took place yesterday and agent ProAuctions, which is handling the sale for agents Savills and a private seller, said its bespoke fish frying range – models of which usually sell for £30,000– was attracting considerable interest. The firm is selling everything individually, or as a job lot.

Auctioneer Tony Flynn told the Oxford Mail: “We have had a lot of interest this morning, with one person coming from as far as Essex.

“It is a bargain so we have had people travelling from in and outside of Oxford.”

Roy Ward, pictured below, from Stafford in the West Midlands, travelled down to look at items that could be used in his daughter’s catering business. The 67-year-old said: “There were a few items, like the pizza-making bar and the work surface units that I am interested in. It is not easy to get this equipment for good prices.”

Oxford Mail:

Mark Flynn, of Pro Auction said: “We have had interest from a variety of businesses in the UK and Europe.

“Fish frying ranges are very expensive and have to be purpose-built and can cost about £30,000.”

Mr Flynn said his company did not know why the fish and chip shop had closed, but added: “The equipment will all be taken out and then we expect the building will be put back on the market, ideally to be rented as a retail or food unit, which it already has a licence for.”

He could not estimate how much it might cost to rent the unit, saying the price would depend on negotiations and market conditions.
