The Bank Holiday is forecast to end with wet and windy weather as the Met Office issued a severe weather warning.

Heavy rain is forecast to spread from the south west and as much as 30mm could fall in some places, with strong and gusty winds also a possibility.

The warning is in place from 6am until 11.50pm and people are advised there may be some impact on holiday traffic and outdoor activities.

Met Office chief forecaster Eddy Carroll said: “A complex area of low pressure will bring an unexpected day’s weather to much of England and Wales on Monday.

“Rainfall amounts are likely to exceed 15mm quite widely, while a few places could see more than 30mm.

“There will be a lot of surface water and spray on roads, and winds will be locally strong and gusty.”

A yellow warning is the lowest level of warning issued by the Met Office and means people should be aware of risks posed by the weather and expect minor travel delays.

Amber warnings advise people to be well prepared before travelling and take precautions where necessary.

The highest level of alert, a red warning, suggests serious disruption and advises against all non-essential travel.
