Sir – Your correspondent Nick Hills (resident Earl Street, flooded 2000, 2003, 2007, Letters, July 31) is surely right about the need for the quantum improvement in flood protection that the Western Conveyance would provide.
The flood risk to low-lying parts of Oxford will worsen as the planet continues to warm.
Without such quantum improvement it is likely that the excellent flood support provided by the Environment Agency, the fire service and the city council in 2014 will be stretched beyond breaking point.
It is probable that large parts of Oxford would then become uninhabitable, and certainly uninsurable.
Peter Newell West Street, Oxford (almost flooded 2007, 2014)
