A HEADTEACHER has warned that GCSE results across Oxfordshire are likely to be more varied than usual, after examination rules were changed.
Last September the Government announced that only a student’s first exam will count in performance tables – and not any subsequent resits.
Sue Croft, principal of Oxford Spires Academy, said this was likely to adversely affect some schools which entered pupils into November exams.
It could lead to a two-track system, she said, where some schools would only give out data that included resits.
She said: “There will be much more variety and I expect that some schools will only give out the better results.
“The final percentage of children who achieved A* to C grades by the end of the year is likely to be higher than the league table – because the table only counts the first sitting.
“Because this is the first year that it has been introduced, schools have found it difficult to respond. But in the long run it will probably be a good thing, having one sitting for everybody is a better way forward.”
