More heavy, thundery showers forecast for Oxfordshire

More heavy, thundery showers are forecast for Oxfordshire after the Met Office issued a second severe weather warning in two days.

Yesterday, the county was deluged with heavy rain as thunderstorms rolled overhead, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow warning - meaning be aware of possible impacts such as flooding.

This morning it issued a second yellow warning for today - from 11am to 7pm - with up to 15mm of rain possibly falling in an hour or 30mm in two or three hours.

People have been warned of possible localised flooding in areas which are worst affected.

A spokesman said: "A deeply unstable airmass will cover much of eastern and central England today. As daytime heating gets going, showers are likely to develop quite quickly during the late morning and become heavy and thundery in the afternoon.

"The showers may become organised into narrow slow-moving bands, with some places having over 15 mm of rain in an hour and up to 30 mm in 2 or 3 hours. As often happens in such situations, some places will escape the downpours."
