Surprise all around as bowler and batsman check to see if the bails are still on. But it’s the bowler’s look of expectation and surprise that does it for me. (He is Oxfordshire’s Chad Keegan against Berkshire’s Simon Macey). Picture by long-time staffer Tony Moore, who retired this week

This is a really graphic image from Ed Nix. It smacks of some 70s/80s album cover by Pink Floyd or 10cc. I like the composition, the contrast of the hard geometric line of the buildings and the natural forms of the tree (and artist, Oxford Brookes alumna Ruth Simons, with her work at the university’s Abercrombie Glass Tank Exhibition). Most of all I like the intensity of the reds as they explode from the centre

Oxford Mail:

Everyone loves a bit of jousting, don’t they? Shooting at a 500th of a second, Jon Lewis pans his camera to follow the horseman and render him sharp, while the crowd blurs to give the impression of speed in the still image. The shutter speed was, nevertheless, fast enough to capture all the horse’s hooves off the ground. The rider was the ‘Marquis De Leon’ on his steed at Blenheim Palace

Oxford Mail:

Creation Theatre’s Macbeth is based in a First World War sanatorium. Dave Fleming got a cracking shot from their photocall at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. I like the symmetry and uniform nature of the verticals and parallel lines in contrast with the off-kilter angle of the flag. Great composition and lighting, plus a darkening sky brings drama to this shot of Simon Spencer-Hyde who plays Banquo and Macduff

Oxford Mail:

Sometimes my sons and I amuse ourselves with a silly walk competition. This shot from Damian Halliwell’s coverage of Oxford United v Bournemouth is included because it reminds me of the second round of our competition, the bended leg stances, funny arm movements and facial expressions are virtually the mirror image of those going off during the hilarious scenes in our back garden. Get this, our competition was on Saturday afternoon at almost exactly the same time. What are the chances of that?

A great moment from a splendid sequence of images of swallows feeding, by our Twitcher Magnifique, George Reszeter

One of the hundreds of images we’ve taken as part of the First World War commemorations across the county. Here, bugler, Sgt Major Ady Higgs, from the Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force, is pictured against the criss-cross backdrop of the stained glass windows of Christ Church College’s Military Chapel.
