Was it just an oversight that led your reporter to leave a few vital items out of the list of what Doric Properties want to demolish in Botley (August 5)?
There was no mention of the destruction of the vicarage, of the iconic and much-loved Elms Parade or of the age-restricted housing at Field House.
Your reporter also failed to mention that Doric want to force elderly and vulnerable people out of their homes to make way for a vast cinema. No amount of art competitions or weasel words about “creating something special for the local community” can whitewash the sheer nastiness of Doric’s attitude towards the elderly members of that community.
If artist Patrick Cannon really thinks that “Botley is a very special place,” then he should be trying to save its essential character, not cosying up to those who want to ruin it.
