I read with interest on July 25 the article by Liz Nicholls on her stay at Sandy Balls as I lived in that area for over 50 years.

She mentioned Bliss Hill, one I had not heard of. Could it not be Blissford Hill that is not far from Sandy Balls? But if she cycled up that one I can see why she was exhausted as it is about half a mile straight and I think it was also very steep.

Even buses don’t use it.

The Royal Oak at Fritham is a nice pub on the edge of the village, close to the enclosure, she could have gone through there and come out close to that hill.

The gravel road is in open heath across the old bombing range after you leave the wood. There are about five pubs in that area of Fritham.

I look forward to any other article she does on that area. It does bring back memories. Thanks for all the items you print in my favourite paper.
