Council to decide on data institute plan

First published in News

Councillors will meet on Wednesday to decide on final approval for Oxford University’s planned Big Data Institute in Headington.

Oxford City Council’s east area planning committee has been recommended by officers to approve final designs for the £30m centre. It will hold vast amounts of data from disease research to work to develop new drugs. It is thought to be the first of its kind in the world.

It has been funded with a £20m gift from health and education group the Li Ka Shing Foundation and £10m from the Government.

Residents have raised fears that a proposed 460-space car park will not be big enough for its 600 staff.
