BOTLEY is no closer to getting a skatepark as once again North Hinksey Parish Council has failed the young people of the parish, rejecting a motion to create a working party to consider the benefits and potential concerns associated with providing a young persons’ leisure facility. Instead, as a wrecking and stalling tactic, the specific of young people was removed, this wider brief is designed to be so onerous that it will never happen before the 2015 elections.

The Vale of White Horse 2009 report has already highlighted a lack of facilities for young people in the parish and furthermore the numerous new housing developments will only exacerbate the inadequacy of present provision. Money was available, 800 people signed a petition, the district and county councils offered support and still the parish council has not replaced the skate-bowl.

Five years later we are still faced with the painful truth that North Hinksey Parish Council refuses to take the needs of its young people seriously.

JUDI BOLDER, DARREN BLASE AND CLARE MEGARITY, On behalf of the Botley Skate Park Campaign, Stanley Close, North Hinksey
