Sir – Last week’s letter from North Oxford councillors, complaining about Bob Price’s refusal to agree to the substitution of the Aristotle Lane level crossing with a disabled access bridge unless British Rail provide South Oxford bridges with disabled access, saying that the two issues are unconnected, are quite wrong.

The connection is disabled access, and the statutory requirement that buildings or other structures for public use must provide for disabled access.

At 93, with impaired walking, I know how important ramps, guard rails, hand rails and hand grabs can be to make life much easier.

I must express astonishment that Network Rail have not fulfilled their statutory requirement in respect of the South Oxford bridges.

Bob Price’s ‘stick and carrot’ approach to these sites deserves every encouragement, and I hope he succeeds.
