Sir – I was pleased to see the article City is named best achiever in last week’s paper. But why only three square inches on page 26? The award highlights success not just in one local authority department or project but right across the organisation at ‘the local government Oscars’.
Councillor Bob Price, leader of Oxford City Council, has said: “Winning this top award is a massive tribute to everyone who works for the council, and for our many partners.
“The council has met the challenges of Government cuts, and has set ambitious targets for further improvements in our services, reducing our carbon usage and supporting jobs and housing. The award reflects our achievements over the past few years.”
I understand that negative news sells more papers than positive news, and that local authority bashing is de rigueur. However I, for one, would like to congratulate the council for receiving this award. Well done everyone.
