What crass nonsense from nPower, originally refusing to announce the time planned for the demolition of the three cooling towers of Didcot A power station on July 27.

‘Nonsense’ because they are not going to be able to stop the large numbers of people who will gather at vantage points to see the dramatic event, so they need to make the schedule clear and manage public access properly, not just stick their heads in the sand.

‘Crass’ because Didcot A has been a major part of the lives of the thousands who have worked there and, like it or loathe it, for almost 50 years it has been a defining landmark for the more than 130,000 people who live in south Oxfordshire.

So, nPower, don’t insult us by trying to deny us the opportunity to witness this significant occasion.

I have been photographing the cooling towers (which I personally find beautiful) ever since they were first built, see my photo above, and I certainly intend to photograph them coming down!
