Join the thousands expected at Headington Festival

6:40am Saturday 31st May 2014

A FUNFAIR and sports races are just some of the highlights of this year’s two-day Headington Festival which begins today.

The fun starts with a bumper street fair on London Road from 10am until 4pm.

There will be a food and craft fair and the Town Crier will be on hand to announce the festivities.

From 11am there will be a street art competition outside the Oxfam shop on London Road and revellers can make their own low-carbon smoothie with members of the Community Action Group. Live music from the Oxford Classic Jazz Band will be performed from 11am and there will also be an appearance from Caroline Watsham and her musical saw.

Jebb the Jester will bring his unicycle for some juggling and mayhem outside Barclays Bank.

And a children’s fun fair opens in Bury Knowle Park at 2pm.

And community groups hope that this year’s festival will be the biggest and best to date.

Organisers extended this year’s festival to two days after 7,000 people flocked to Bury Knowle Park for events last year which proved a huge success.

The festival will continue tomorrow with a sports day in the park from 1pm to 5pm.

It is organised by Headington Action and chairman Patrick Coulter hopes that this year it will bring the community together across Headington.
