Sir – As a strong supporter of road safety and general common sense among young children, it concerns me greatly that those who should know better, ie some parents, show total disregard for their children’s safety.
North Kidlington Primary School gives regular instruction on road safety to those pupils who ride bicycles, if they wish to take part.
Sadly, every single school day morning and afternoon, some of the parents, and it is usually the same ones, park their vehicles partly on the pavement on the corner of the junction of Wise Avenue/Benmead Road and in the no-waiting area which is clearly marked, and to compound the danger, unload their ‘precious’ cargo more often than not into the roadside.
It seems such a shame when the school tries so hard to educate the children in general road safety and awareness that some of the parents are obviously lacking any brain cells. Occasionally a community police officer arrives highly visible in his/her tabard so obviously the parking problem suddenly disappears, only to reappear until their next visit. Every day we hope that a child doesn’t get hurt, but maybe?
