I am writing concerning the Witney Festival of Food and Drink. A big well done to all the team who put the Witney Festival of Food and Drink together on Saturday.

What a fantastic event for the town to be really proud of. Local producers and retailers showing off what’s to found in the local market place, all in one part of the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswolds.

I do have a question, though: why can’t this event be allowed to expand in the future on to Church Green as well as use St Mary’s Church?

There is clearly a huge demand for quality local producers and why are our district council so against hosting quality local events on Church Green? To me it’s a perfect place for a select amount of community events.

Was the land not gifted to the people of Witney many years ago for their benefit?

It’s been nine years since the last Witney Trade Fair which was very successfully hosted in the centre of Witney on Church Green. I say bring back the trade fair to the centre of Witney along with local quality community events like the Witney Festival of Food and Drink. Community events in the centre of the community I say.

Please contact me at chris@beautiful-group.co.uk if you think six community events a year should be regulated and allowed to use Church Green.

We’re looking forward to next year’s event.
