As a strong supporter of road safety and general common sense among young children, it concerns me greatly that those who should know better (some of their parents) show total disregard for their children’s safety.
North Oxford Primary School gives regular instruction on road safety to those pupils who ride bicycles, if they wish to take part.
Park your car safely during school drop-offs
Sadly, every single school day morning and afternoon, some of the parents (and it is usually the same ones), park their vehicles partly on the pavement, on the corner of the junction of Wise Avenue and Benmead Road, and in the no-waiting area which is clearly marked.
To compound the danger, they unload their precious cargo, more often than not, on the road side. It seems such a shame, when the school tries so hard to educate the children in general road safety and awareness, that some of the parents are obviously lacking any brain cells.
Occasionally a Police Community Support Officer arrives, highly visible in a tabard, so obviously the parking problem suddenly disappears, only to reappear until their next visit. Every day we hope that a child doesn’t get hurt.
