HOW can John Tanner expect to make money from the sale of St Giles’ toilets.

The reason for their closure ‘health and safety regulations’, as it was considered too dangerous for the public to cross to the centre of a busy road.

Surely this point renders them a white elephant and not suitable for sale. Some projects suggested (April 30) by the city council, possibly a shop or café – would create the same health and safety issues which forced them to close these public conveniences originally.

If the council was allowed to sell our public resource on the open market, presumably a café would need to provide toilet facilities.

I believe that they should be retained as a historical site.

Oxford trades on its visitors who appreciate period architecture and I understand St Giles may be pedestrianised and therefore toilets will be required. We must retain this valuable resource and enable everyone to be able to access and use our facilities again.
