FIREFIGHTERS will go on strike today for the second day in a row.
They will walk out at 2pm following a dispute over pay and conditions between the Government and the Fire Brigades Union.
The strike will end at 2am tomorrow and firefighters will then walk out again between 10am and 3pm on Sunday.
During this period Oxfordshire County Council will provide cover with a mixture of non-striking firefighters and on-call volunteers.
An agreement has also been reached between the council and the local FBU branch that the strike will be broken if a major incident occurs.
During yesterday’s strike – between noon and 5pm – 20 of the county’s 34 fire engines were available and one emergency call was received, to a fire alarm in Headington.
