Sir – I see that the county council is set to approve an upgrade to the Plain (Report, March 27) which is very laudable but perhaps premature given the state of Oxford’s roads network.
The Plain was relatively recently resurfaced, has visible road markings and the surface is generally very good. Compare and contrast this to the state of the Cowley Road (where I saw a motorcyclist picking his way gingerly down the road last Sunday), the London Road in Headington where the surface is patently unsafe for cars, cyclists and motorcyclists; the Woodstock and Banbury Roads which are showing major signs of failure, I could go on.
It is highly likely that someone will be seriously injured or worse on these roads yet the council and our elected representatives seem to ignore this issue. Why for example are the London Road repairs not happening until July; why is the work on the Plain (while laudable) taking priority over more obvious needs?
