YOUR story about the Christmas celebrations in St Giles being cancelled this year raises a serious concern.
It seems that the tipping point were the objections made by the University and various colleges. Does this now confirm that the minority now control our city?
I have an objection to thousands of drunken students taking over our city and closing the only route in and out to Headington, Iffley, Cowley and beyond, causing major problems for Oxonians needing to get to and from work and bringing gridlock to all other routes.
If the University thinks that our Christmas celebrations are “tawdry” and as such called for them to be cancelled, all that I can say is that after the universities’ May Morning drunken ‘fiesta’, the word that I would use to describe their students’ actions in using our doorways as a toilet and letter-boxes as a waste bin to put their burgers and kebabs into, would not be suitable for a family newspaper. So I will be sending my objection to the council to cancel this night of crude, debauched and disruptive actions foisted upon us by the University.
