I am writing concerning British Home Stores’s closure in Oxford.
This is a fabulous shop and I spend a lot of time – and money – shopping there.
The staff are helpful and friendly and as I am disabled the shop is easy to get around. I am also a larger lady, and most of my clothes are from Evans, which has a department in BHS. Where are we bigger girls meant to get our clothes? Primark – great if you are young and skinny. M&S – again the sizing issue and the cost. The same apply to Top Shop, H&M, and so on.
Another thing: why do we need a ‘new’ Westgate? What’s wrong with the one we have?
Oxford already has more than enough cinemas, restaurants, and coffee shops and a marvellous diversity of shops, including the Covered Market.
If the council has £400m to spare, what about the hospitals, schools and care homes – and don’t get me started on the state of the roads, which the council apparently cannot afford to repair.
Oxford is a fabulous city and I am proud to be connected with it, but it could soon become a ghost town as there will be nothing for the average person. Please, planners, leave Oxford as it is.
