FOLLOWING the announcement by representatives of the Covered Market Tenants Association that the city council will not honour the findings of the arbitrator (brought in to try to find a resolution to the on-going rent dispute between the council and the market traders), will the Oxford Mail invite the council or councillors to explain to the people of Oxford why they are refusing (allegedly) to honour the outcome of the arbitrator’s findings?
The Covered Market
I thought in a democratic society that one abided by the outcome of a democratic debate, but it is obvious that this city council does not believe in democracy which does not surprise me.
The honourable thing for this city council to do is to accept the decision of the arbitrator, apologise to the market traders and move on – or does the city council have an alternative motive like demolishing the market and building more student accommodation?
