I BELIEVE that the Western Conveyance project is flawed.

It has been designed to divert fast-flowing water away from the Thames at Oxford to reduce flooding.

The proposed channel will rejoin the river at Sandford.

Residents who live downstream are naturally concerned that the increase in flow will serve to increase the flooding problems in their communities.

I feel that this problem could easily be solved and gain the financial support necessary to install this beneficial flood defence.

Plans need to be revised to create allocated areas along the Western Conveyance where fast-flowing floodwater could be held to create ‘ponds’ (similar to Radley gravel pits).

These areas could safely hold floodwater and be sited safely away from communities.

They would be able to retain and conserve water which is a valuable resource, also minimising the impact during drought conditions – surely a useful tool and forward-thinking, bearing in mind the ever-changing extreme weather patterns.
