AN emergency visit to dispose of old unwanted paint for a friend to the Redbridge recycling centre was a massive shock because of the disarray of the site with no instructions of what goes where – the layout of the bins and the access to and from the site is so poor.

It is no surprise that residents won’t take their unwanted items to Redbridge, hence much fly-tipping occurs.

Compared with Dix pit in West Oxfordshire, the waste disposal at Redbridge is outdated and more of an obstacle rather than a helpful way of disposal.

Living in Eynsham, Dix pit is local and easily accessed via a ramp that takes your vehicle up to be level with the top of the open bins, making it easy to move waste from the car to the correct bins which are all clearly labelled. The staff at Dix pit cannot be praised enough as they are all to ready to give assistance in moving heavy or awkward items to the correct bin. They also keep the whole site tidy and clean and put safety-net barriers in place when bins are being changed to an empty one.

Redbridge has a lot to learn and could do well to visit Dix pit to see how it should be done.
