Sir – It is indeed good news that the renowned transport expert, councillor Colin Cook, is "confident that the new link road at the Northern Gateway will mitigate the impact of traffic generated by the development".
It is certainly a stroke of genius to replace the proposed major intersection between trunk roads with a short side road running north-east between the A40 and the A44/ Pear Tree park-and-ride junction, effectively replicating the present unofficial cut through the garage complex at the Wolvercote Roundabout.
With such good news to proclaim, it is surprising that Dr Cook has been keeping such a low profile during the current consultation exercise regarding the development.
Robert Logan, Wolvercote
