A TEENAGER has been sentenced for dealing the drugs which led to the death of 15-year-old Martha Fernback.

Alex Williams, 17, who can be named after legal restrictions were lifted, was given an 18-month youth rehabilitation order with a 90-day curfew for dealing the class A drugs.

Williams, of Sycamore Road, Botley, last month pleaded guilty to dealing the drugs, namely a gram of MDMA, at Oxford Crown Court.

Martha, 15, took it and collapsed shortly afterwards in Hinksey Park, Oxford on July 20 last year.

She was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington but later pronounced dead.

Investigations showed Martha, who attended The Cherwell School and lived in Summertown, had died from MDMA toxicity or poisoning.

An analysis of the seized drugs showed them to have a purity of about 91 per cent. The average purity seized by Thames Valley Police between May and September 2013 was 58.5 per cent.

He sold the drugs to a group of four girls in Gloucester Green, Oxford, on July 17.

Det Con Matthew Hodgetts said: “This is a tragic case, but it was not simply an accident.

“Those dealing MDMA must be aware that it is potentially fatal, especially since the purity can be so hard to assess.

“Williams took that risk anyway, all for £20 profit. I can only hope that he and others like him think more about the consequences of their actions to avoid this terrible event from happening again.”
