Sir – There is a beautiful large weeping willow tree in Sherwood Place that was damaged during a heavy storm in November.

Two large branches were cracked and hanging loose and much debris fell in the road. Nothing was done for weeks.

I drew attention to the problem and the broken branches were trimmed and the road debris was cleared.

That was a wonderful response from the city. However, much debris was left under the tree where the daffodils are now starting to come up, and vermin are no doubt sheltering ready to multiply.

The tree is very lop-sided so that the crown will need trimming if it is to survive the next heavy storm.

I understand from the city council that these issues are not their responsibility and that identifying the people responsible and getting them to act is not something that they have been able to achieve during the past several weeks. It is worrying that the city council can pass such responsibilities to other organisations and then lose track of the people who are responsible. What can be done now?
