Sir – The Oxford City Council questionnaire that has been sent out in relation to the Northern Gateway Scheme is prima facie evidence that the council have made up their minds and are not truly interested in the local community’s views on the matter.
The questions are loaded to get certain responses eg: “Do you want to see improvements to the Wolvercote Roundabout?” Who does not want to see improvements? But there are no details as to what these improvements may be.
They may actually be retrograde steps but the questionnaire will allow the council to respond in the future that the vast majority of people supported such improvements. Given the city council stands to make a one-off windfall and generate greater future revenues from council tax, one has to wonder on their ability to represent the community in this matter.
