IN response to Mr Hutton’s letter (February 26) about serious accidents being caused by speed: in my experience as an emergency ambulance driver for six years, and an advanced driver trainer to the emergency services for three years, and as a RoSPA Gold advanced driver, I’d have to say that idiocy has no speed limit.

An idiot will pay no attention to speed limits, weather conditions, traffic congestion, or any other factors. They are just an nuisance to all other road users. They have their own agenda, only known to them, and that is more important that any other factor.

Speed limits are not the answer: driver education is the answer. Cars are a very dangerous thing. Even relatively small and underpowered cars are capable of carrying four people to a speed of 100mph.

Everyone needs to be taught, from school, that while driving can be enjoyable and gives you freedom to move around, it also a great responsibility.
